Ubud, terrace to temple.
Sunrise on Batur, the Tegallalang terraces at first light, waterfalls in the gorge and a Kecak fire dance after dark. What each tour is really like, what it costs, and where to book.
Seven you won’t want to miss.
First trip or fifth, these carry the itinerary: the terrace-and-temple loop everyone books, a sunrise on the volcano, the swing that hangs you out over the valley.

One climb, and the whole island lights up.
The jeep or the trailhead by two, head-torches up the black lava, and you’re on the rim as the sun clears Lombok and Mount Agung floats above the cloud. Breakfast steamed in the volcano’s heat, back in Ubud by mid-morning. This is the day people set an alarm they’d never set at home.
Which Ubud day is yours?
Everyone lands wanting all of it; the right day depends on your pace. Three ways to spend it. Pick the one that sounds like you, and every tour behind it is already reviewed and priced.
The full loop
The classic day
from $56 · 8,571 reviews
A driver collects you after breakfast and the day writes itself: the Tegallalang terraces before the coaches, the Monkey Forest, a water temple, a waterfall in the gorge. Everything ticked, no map required, and that is exactly why first-timers book it.

Mud and river
The adventure day
90 minutes - 9 hours · from $22 · 4,881 reviews
Quad bikes through the cave tunnels and rice fields, the Ayung River’s rapids after lunch, the swing that launches you out over the canopy. Wet, loud and photographed to death. For travellers who’d rather do Ubud than look at it.

Slow and sacred
The wellness day
3 - 6 hours · from $24 · 1,257 reviews
Skip the checklist. A melukat cleansing at a spring temple, a riverside massage, a sunrise yoga session on a deck above the paddies. Ubud invented the slow version of itself. This is how you actually feel it.

The fire dance still owns the night.
As the light goes, a hundred bare-chested men drop into a circle and start to chant, and a trance dancer walks barefoot through burning coconut husk. No instruments, no set: just voices and firelight. You can read about Kecak, or you can feel the heat of it from the front row.
Ubud tastes best over a flame.
Pick market greens with a Balinese cook, grind the spice paste by hand, then eat what you made in an open kitchen above the rice fields. If you book one hands-on afternoon in Ubud, make it this.
The jungle is the playground.
Quad bikes through cave tunnels, a raft down the Ayung between the gorge walls, the canyoning drop into a cold pool nobody drives past. Book the mud and the water for the same trip. Ubud has room for both.

Ubud keeps its old gods close.
Every village has its temple, every doorway its morning offering. Bathe in the holy springs at Tirta Empul the way Balinese families have for a thousand years, watch a barong mask come alive, learn why the rice itself has a goddess. Ubud is a working spiritual town, not a museum, so go with someone who can read it for you.
The Ubud map, landmark by landmark.
Ubud spreads into the hills around it, and each name is a morning of its own. Tegallalang for the terraces at first light. The Campuhan ridge for the walk. The Monkey Forest for the mischief. Batur for the sunrise you’ll talk about for years.
Come with a plan in mind?
A dozen ways to spend a day in Ubud. Pick the one that sounds like your kind of morning, and every tour behind it is already reviewed and priced.
Further out, back by dark.
A driver and a full day open up the rest of Bali: the cliffs and manta bays of Nusa Penida, dolphins off Lovina at dawn, the crater lake at Kintamani. Ubud makes an easy base; the hard part is choosing just one.
Three days, and you’ve got Ubud.
You can’t see all of Bali from Ubud in one trip; you can absolutely get the valley right in three days. This is the order we’d give a friend landing at Denpasar tomorrow.
Day 1
Settle into the valley
The Tegallalang terraces before the coaches, the Monkey Forest, a first waterfall in the gorge, a Balinese dinner as the frogs start up. Gentle pace, maximum Ubud.
Plan day one →
Day 2
Get in the river
Quad bikes in the morning mud, the Ayung’s rapids after lunch, the jungle swing for the photo, then a long massage to put yourself back together.
Plan day two →
Day 3
Up the volcano, then slow down
The 2 a.m. start for Batur’s sunrise and a volcanic-steam breakfast, back in time for a melukat cleansing and a quiet afternoon over the rice fields.
Plan day three →
Fresh from the valley.
